1957: "Leasing cars will never work."
Though really common now, very few companies leased cars in 1957. Executive Leasing is launched in the cramped basement office of a St. Louis car dealership. Due to our commitment to personal service and by demonstrating the advantages of leasing, we started to GO.
1962: "Can I get a loaner car?"
And with that question, a new market was born – we started renting cars by the day. When the auto dealer’s customers had their leased cars in the shop, we’d rent them a loaner.
1967: "The 'e' is born."
Executive Leasing begins using the "e" logo that is still used by Enterprise today. However, it's slightly more contemporary than it was back then ... like our company.
1969: "Now, it's an Enterprise."
We rename Executive Leasing to "Enterprise". This name is chosen in honor of the U.S.S. Enterprise aircraft carrier which Jack Taylor served on in World War II as a decorated fighter pilot.
1974: "Can I pick you up?"
Thanks to the entrepreneurial idea of one manager in Orlando, we start a program that gives customers a free ride to the rental office. The service quickly spreads to other Enterprise locations.
1980: "The start of quite a decade."
In the 1980s we make the strategic decision to begin an aggressive nationwide expansion. The company grows to 800 offices across the country. Our fleet grows from 6,000 to 100,000 vehicles.
1993: "GO global."
Enterprise opens its first international office in Canada. It's the beginning of its global expansion. The following year, we enter the European marketplace.
1995: "Taking off in a whole new way."
We open our first Enterprise office in an airport – bringing our unique brand of customer service to this highly competitive arena. Our revenues now top $2 billion.
1999: "Truckin' along."
Enterprise opens its first Commercial Truck Rental location - expanding its business lines that include Fleet Management and Car Sales while giving employees more career opportunities.
"Customer service is our way of life."
After only being at the airport for a short time, Enterprise is ranked highest in customer satisfaction among airport renters by J.D. Power and Associates. An award we will win consistently year-after-year.
2006: "Thousands of careers launched."
"A golden anniversary ... with
lots of trees."
We are named as one of the best places to launch a career in the inaugural BusinessWeek rankings. It is a list that we will continue to be ranked on each year.
"A golden anniversary ... with lots of trees."
Enterprise celebrates its 50th anniversary by thanking its employees, customers and partners with a gift of 50 million trees. We pledge to plant one million trees each year for the following 50 years as a way to give back. It's the first plank of our industry-leading environmental platform.
2007: "Three powerful brands ...
one powerful vision."
"Three powerful brands ... one powerful vision."Enterprise acquires National Car Rental and Alamo Rent-A-Car, making us the most comprehensive transportation service provider in the industry. The acquisition gives greater value to our customers, more opportunities for our employees and long-term business growth to our company.
2008: "A new chapter in an
extraordinary story."
"A new chapter in an extraordinary story."Pam Nicholson is named president of Enterprise – only the second non-Taylor family member to hold that post. As well, she is included on Forbes' list of "The Most Powerful Women in the World" – joined by other notables such as Oprah Winfrey and Queen Elizabeth II.
INNOVATIVE AND SUCCESSFUL FROM THE WORLD GO.
Jack Taylor, our founder, had an idea. And he turned it into the world's largest car rental company. What was the idea?
"Take care of your customers and your employees first and growth and profits will follow."
