What’s a day like at Enterprise? For starters, it’s exciting, in-your-face, action-packed, and fast-paced. You’re always learning, always helping customers and always having fun. While there is no such thing as a typical day, here are a couple examples of some not-so-typical days at Enterprise.
9:16 a.m. – Orientation's over.
After spending time in orientation and getting acclimated to Enterprise, I’m spending my first day in a branch working with customers. It didn’t take me long to get up to speed though. One customer wants rates, another has been in an accident and needs a car, and a third is ready to be picked up at the car dealership. Luckily, my training has given me the knowledge and skills to take care of each of their needs. And if I ever do have a question, I have a great team behind me ready to support me.
12:25 p.m. – Working lunch.
My internship is all about me learning. So during lunch today, I’m learning about revenue management from my Branch Manager. Between bites of a salad, she’s teaching me what she’s learned in her time at Enterprise. Everyone here is willing to help me learn what I need to succeed. Tomorrow, one of the Management Trainees is walking me through the way we measure sales goals. I’ll be sure to take good note. I will need to include what I have learned in my presentation to my leadership team at the end of my internship.
2:50 p.m. – Teamwork works.
This afternoon, while walking one customer out to their car I received a phone call from a customer I helped 20 minutes earlier. They accidentally pressed the wrong button on their key and now couldn’t get the car to start. I handed one customer off to my manager, and quickly walked the other through the process of unlocking their ignition. Both wound up satisfied. Job well done.
4:49 p.m. – Day’s winding down.
Remember before when I said we never stop learning. We also never stop having fun. Tonight we’re all going out to our favorite restaurant for a Management Trainee’s birthday. We all have stories to tell from our day and I’m sure we’ll have a blast. It’s great to be a part of a team that gets along so well.
9:01 a.m. – I’m going on a sales call.
I’m one week into my internship and the only coffee I’ve had to get has been for myself. Today, I’m joining the Branch Manager on a few sales calls. He’s actually picking my brain about how I’d work with each customer. I never expected to be involved in so many important decisions. I guess there’s more than I thought to being an intern.
10:51 a.m. – “It just broke off in the lock.”
I sat down to work through some accounting procedures and the phone rings. A customer was loading his trunk when he broke his key off in the trunk lock. I conference in a locksmith, and twenty minutes later I get a call from the same customer thanking me for helping him so quickly. How often do I get thanked for a job well done? Around here, pretty often.
12:58 p.m. – Managing a big fleet.
Enterprise is a big operation. Just from this branch, we rent more than 150 vehicles. Today, a Management Trainee is teaching me about our inventory management process so I’ll learn how Enterprise keeps track of their whole fleet, and how we can manage our small part of it even better. No matter what I do in life, I know I’ll use what I’m learning at Enterprise.
5:27 p.m. – One more day saved.
I was heading home for the day when a customer got dropped off at our branch. She was desperately in need of a vehicle at the last second. Our branch was out of cars, but I called to see if another Enterprise location had available vehicles. Luckily, we found one nearby. I drove the customer to the other branch, where we were able to get her on her way. It felt great to be able to help another person in need – the second time today.
