What’s a day like at Enterprise? For starters, it’s exciting, in-your-face, action-packed, and fast-paced. You’re always learning, always helping customers and always having fun. While there is no such thing as a typical day, here are a couple examples of some not-so-typical days at Enterprise.
8:02 a.m. – Helping out.
There’s a homeless shelter in our neighborhood that does great work and helps a lot of people. Today I’m starting my day at Enterprise by dropping off a van. They’re able to rent it for a discount and use it to give people rides to the community college, the hospital and around town. This is just one way Enterprise helps out in the community. We saw a need and now we’re able to help. After all, that’s what we do best.
11:19 a.m. – Learning by example.
This morning I’m showing an intern how to rent a car and, in turn, how to provide excellent service to all of our customers. I’m also learning how to lead by working with a great manager. Today, he’s walking me through the performance matrix. This is how all of our sales goals are tracked. Tomorrow, I’ll take what I have learned and walk the intern through the performance matrix. This is my first step toward being a leader and mentor.
1:40 p.m. - A customer needed me.
Right after lunch, I was helping a customer when they realized that their Drivers License had expired. We both hopped into a car and I drove them to the local DMV so they could get it renewed. Actually, this happens pretty frequently and we’re more than happy to help. As it turns out, the customer is a new business owner with regular transportation needs. Now we handle all of their company’s rentals.
4:19 p.m. - More than a pat on the back.
Today, I signed my first corporate account. My manager called the whole team together – right in the middle of the branch – and told everyone about my accomplishment. They actually cheered. Yes, I was a little embarrassed by all the attention and the high-fives. But it meant more than any “Employee of the Month” plaque on the wall ever could.
9:01 a.m. - A regular walks in the door.
It’s Friday. That means Doris will be here. Every Friday she rents a car to visit her sister and her mom in the next town and to run errands. I have made sure the type of car she likes is pulled up front and I have her paperwork ready to go. Once she walks through the door, all she needs to do is sign the contract, look over the car and she is on her way. She’s been doing this every Friday for a few years and she really likes her routine. And so do the rest of us.
10:51 a.m. – How to manage 150 vehicles.
At any given time, we have around 150 vehicles – either rented out to customers, being returned, or being prepared for a new customer. Good thing we have a way to keep everything organized. Today I’m walking through our inventory management process with our newest Management Trainee. He is eager to learn everything about our system. He’s always asking questions and always learning. Some day he’s going to walk a new employee through this same process so I need to make sure he knows every part of it.
2:37 p.m. – Rented a hybrid to a skeptic.
I was working with an older customer and brought up that we had a few hybrid vehicles available. He made a comment about not wanting his car to run out of battery power. I took a few minutes to explain how hybrids worked – even going so far as to walk him out to the lot and pop the hood. He was impressed by the car, by the technology and by the fact that I took the time to explain everything to him.
4:00 p.m. – A winning deal!
I have been marketing our transportation solutions to a local dealership these past few months – letting them know about the personalized service of Enterprise and how we can improve their customer service by providing loaner vehicles on their behalf. Before finishing my day, I stopped by to talk to the owner who set up a meeting with me. Today is a great day as he has decided to give us his business! This is the first account I’ve landed on my own. It’s an exciting time, and the team is taking me out to celebrate.;
